Lenses

This week I’ve been creating posts around a short article in the Immersive Magazine titled, The Reiner/Sorkin Lens. The online magazine is designed to invite people out of the chaos into a serene, immersive experience. With that same goal in mind, I will touch on politics and pop culture. My objective source is developed through the lens of the common ground perspective, championing the phrase, “We all have roots in common ground.” Thus, the “Common Ground Sound Project” and the “Common Ground Sound Immersive Magazine” and so on.

I have a lyric in an old song that I never finished that goes like this:

You say there are no absolutes.

I ask you, “Are you absolutely sure?”

It’s a fact that we’ve all done the math,

And two plus two is absolutely four—every time.

The bottom line is that we are all simply searching for the truth. Every last one of us is in a relentless search for what we believe and perceive to be the absolute truth in various matters. Some of us don’t even want to be in this pursuit, but it is a compelling, innate desire and we can’t quit. Surely there’s a reason for this.

On a podcast I will be posting on my website, I will share my perspective on my own personal way of finding truth. It might not be everyone’s way, but it might be worth listening to and considering. As each one of us walks our individual journey in life, every person can gain wisdom and discernment from listening to the others. In recovery groups, one of the most powerful things you can do is sit silent and listen to people go around the room taking their 5 minute turn to share. You will walk out with so much edifying perspective.

This is where mutual love and respect come in, which are so desperately needed in our society today. We have lost civility in this country. Rather than writing it off completely, I’m choosing to continue to talk about it, write about it, sing about it, and pray about it.  I feel the moods and attitudes of others, and hear the words of so many Americans believing we are at a point of no return. I don’t believe that’s true. On the contrary, I believe we are actually at a point of return.

The divisiveness has robbed us of a soul satisfaction that is like spiritual oxygen. We need each other more than we realize sometimes. So you have to draw hard lines in the sand in some cases and with some people, or groups of people, that’s ok. People still need community, unity, and harmony and it is my prediction that we are now fast headed for a major return to those precious things.

Return to love,

Jill
